You ever look up in the night sky and question me, what are these objects there? Where do we fit on Earth? We are part of the solar system that is in a larger unit, the milky way here on Earth.
A Galaxy is a combination of gas and dust of billions of stars, which are held together by gravity. Galaxies can spiral, barred spiral, elliptical, and irregular shaped. Our Milky Way Galaxy is a spiral galaxy.
Our solar system is composed of eight (or nine depending on how you count.) Planets, asteroids, meteors, comets and the Sun. The Sun is about 93000000 miles away from Earth and is the center of the solar system. The Sun is a star that emits energy of nuclear reactions in its core.
The planets in order from the Sun are mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto (if you count it.). The word "Planet" is of Greek origin that means "the Wanderer". Because "Wanderers" to "Walking" across the sky tracks. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars and Pluto are "terrestrial" meaning that they are like Earth, as they have rocky areas. The outer planets are gaseous, as they are inner and outer coat to made of hydrogen and helium with a rocky core. Each planet is orbiting a different time, the Sun. Mercury is the shortest orbital period of only 88 Earth days. Naturally, Pluto has the longest orbital period of 248.5 Earth years.
Some of the planets have moons orbiting it. Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto have at least one or more moons. Some of the outer planets have rings around them. Saturn is the most famous for this. The rings are billions of ice-covered rock fragments from and dust particles.
There are a number of other orbiting celestial bodies of our Sun. Asteroids, comets and meteors scattered in our solar system. Asteroids are pieces left on the planet in particular in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter, available. You can be as small gravel or hundreds of miles.
In fact, comets are dirty snowballs, orbiting the Sun. We look at the rule not will develop comets as "tails" but the tail, until the Comet gets close to the Sun. This is because they burn gases. The tail consists of two parts the ionized gas, partials in color and dust that the yellow colour are bluish. A comet is elliptical orbit and planet can have gravity effects on its orbital path.
Meteors are part of the comets that have canceled. The pieces continue to travel, as the Comet went when it broke up the same way. This path crosses Earth we find meteor shower, and if some of these meteors to earth fall, they are called meteorites.
I hope you now have a better understanding of our little piece of the universe. There we are how small or how small the world is compared to the rest of the Galaxy is really amazing when you stop to check. I have touched only on a very small part of it!
3D astronomer is an interesting way to explore the solar system. You can visit one of the nine planets in our solar system, or why not call on another Galaxy all together! For more information please go read the 3D astronomer section on the page "Space Shuttle Stuff" of SpaceShuttleFacts.com and your there, why not some learn interesting facts about space shuttles!
